Description
The About screen is used to view the current release/version of SwiftPOS software as well as all SwiftPOS Back Office related software components. In addition, it also provides the access to the SwiftPOS Software Updater.
About
This screen is accessed from here.
- http://www.swiftpos.com.au
- Displays the current release/version of SwiftPOS software.
- Displays the site's current Reseller Contact information. This information is sourced from here.
- Check for Web Updates - Select to check for the most recent software updates. Selecting this will result in SwiftPOS Back Office to be shutdown, and the SwiftPOS Software Updater to be invoked. See below for further information re Check for Web Updates.
- Close - Select to exit.
About - Application Versions
This tab is accessed from here and is displays the list of all SwiftPOS Back Office related software components currently installed and their current version/release.
Note : Under normal circumstances there would be no need to view this information. However, when a support issue arises and requires troubleshooting the information displayed here maybe relevant. For example : If for some reason a DLL file did not download from the web successfully (due to the fact that it may have been cached by an ISP) and therefore maybe the cause of problems being experienced. In this situation this tab can be used to check to see if any of the files are NOT of the correct version. In instances like this a member of the SwiftPOS Support team will request that this information be reviewed.

Description
The SwiftPOS Software Updater screen is used to automatically download updates from either the internet or locally. It is also used to download the multi language files required to enable Language selection. It lists the software modules for which software updates can be downloaded and whether an update is required.
To Be Considered
- Note : Access to this feature can be permitted/restricted by selecting/unselecting the Check for Software Updates via the Clerk Security Groups screen.
- It is recommended that the SwiftPOS Software Updater is invoked from the About_Tab menu. This will always ensure that the latest version of the SwiftPOS Software Updater application is invoked. Note : If however a desktop shortcut is being used to invoke the SwiftPOS Software Updater make sure it is using the SoftwareUdaterv4.exe file that is usually located in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Samford Software\Updates folder.
Pre-Requisites
- Backup of the SwiftPOS Back Office database.
- An internet connection is required to download software updates from the Web. For sites that do not have internet connections, software updates can be downloaded in the form of an install file from the Web where there is internet connection and then installed manually at the site.
SwiftPOS Software Updater
When initially opened this screen will automatically check for updates.
- Downloading from - Displays the URL from where the software updates are being sourced from.
- Status - Displays the current status of the software update process.
Grid
Lists software modules for which updates can be downloaded and also displays a status comment. The associated check box will be checked if updates are required.
- Details/Hide Details - Toggle button to show/hide the display of further information associated with the software module selected. See below for further information re these details.
- Update Selected - Select to initiate the downloading of the updates.
- Refresh - Select to refresh the grid and check for updates.
- Advanced Settings - Select to set download settings. This option is password protected. See below for further information re these settings.
- Exit - Select to exit.
Software Updates
- This will download the latest "Software Updater" application (if required) and then automatically open the application to bring down the latest software updates.
- Prior to the update process, a backup of all the existing files is made in a directory called
"My Documents\My Backups" If for any reason you need to restore the backup, you can just unzip these backups over the top of the existing folders that were updated. This will take you back to before the update was done. It will not undo any updates you may have done to your SQL databases below.
Note : Always update the database after a software update has completed.

Not normally required.
- Supported Languages - Select to open the Language Support screen and for those selected languages ensure the install of their associated language file. For further information regarding Language setup and translation click here.
- Download Debug Symbols - Select to download.This is a feature used by Resellers for testing mainly and increases the size of the download slightly.
Advanced Settings
Advanced settings normally requires the creation of a password to access this screen. Make sure it is a password that is easily remembered, otherwise contact us to receive a password that is valid for 1 day.
- Software Version - Displays the most current release and should only be changed on instruction from your Reseller.
- Select either one of the following download options and configure appropriately:
- Download from Web - Select to set the web related settings.
- Use Alternate Location - This allows updates to be downloaded from a different server than the default SwiftPOS Software server.
- Use Proxy Settings - Generally used by Universities and Government Departments, and quite often needs additional information to ensure access.
- Local Drive / Folder - If downloading from a network share or USB stick then enter the path here. Note : Updates can also, simply be provided via a zipped up installation file for each application.
- Local Drive / Folder - Select to set the local settings.
- Enter the email address to send a download report to.
- Updates require password - Select to enable password protection. When selected a prompt will be displayed requesting the entry of the password specified below.
- Settings Password - Enter the password required to be entered in order to download updates.
- Ok - Select to save any changes and exit.
- Close - Select to not save changes and exit.
